Early Mayors in Phoenix & Northern Arizona
Phoenix
Emil Ganz (1838-1922), a hotel manager, liquor merchant, and banker, won mayoral elections in 1885, 1886, and 1899.
Leonard Meyer (1851-95), a Wells Fargo agent, was elected mayor in 1888 but his term was interrupted when he was convicted of embezzlement and imprisoned.
Bisbee
Emil Marks (1860-1945), a barber, lumberman, and miner, was elected mayor in the 1890s.
Moses Newman (1859-1931), a department store owner, followed him in 1911-1912.
