Isadore Goldstein (1883-1959) came to Juneau with his family as a small child in the 1880s.
As a young man, he joined the Iditarod Gold Rush after the strike was announced in 1908.
He opened a clothing store for the men and women who were streaming in to seek mineral wealth.
Goldstein returned to Juneau, where he served four terms on the city council and was then elected mayor six times (1923-25 and 1933-37).
In 1923 he welcomed U.S. President Warren Harding to Juneau on his historic first visit to Alaska by an American president.
